Reneé. . . Cagnina Haynes. . .

I'm a designer living and working in Durham, North Carolina with a background in museum publishing and arts administration. Currently, I'm the exhibitions and publications manager with the Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University, a modern and contemporary art museum founded in 2005 and designed by starchitect Rafael Viñoly. I joined the museum's curatorial team in 2009, and have since managed / designed a number of touring exhibitions and catalogues. I'm always looking for opportunities to collaborate and learn from others; so, please don't hesitate to reach out.

yup, that's me

Over the years, I have art directed and managed the Nasher Museum’s publications program. However, in 2015 I took on the additional role of designing the museum’s catalogues while working towards my degree in graphic design at NC State. The first book published under my design leadership was the 276-page catalogue Southern Accent, which was co-designed with Knoxville-based designer Julie Klugman Braude. Southern Accent was recognized with an Editorial International Design Award by How Magazine (2016) and a Regional Design Award by Print Magazine (2017). I have since designed Nina Chanel Abney: Royal Flush (2017), which was selected by New York Times art critic Roberta Smith as one of "The Best Art Books of 2017." Currently, I am developing Pop América, 1965–1975, a 216-page hardcover catalogue, with editor and Duke professor Esther Gabara. Pop América is funded by the Sotheby's Prize and Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts. The catalogue will become available in October 2018.

In May, I completed my degree in graphic design with honors from the College of Design at NC State University. Design makes my heart go pitter-patter.

Designing my future

Art and design engage the mind in imaginative thought, and its the imagination that sparks innovative problem-solving. By employing the techniques of user-centered research and design thinking, I work in close collaboration with clients and key stakeholders to better understand unarticulated needs and identify opportunities for solutions. For me, it’s not about designing an individualized moment but rather strategically crafting a collective experience from start to finish.
